condom.jpgWrong head! A 31-year-old man whose roommates found him naked on his bed with a condom pulled over his head apparently died accidentally as a result of sadomasochistic drug experimentation, London authorities determined. It’s not clear whether the condom or the three cans of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) he evidently used to inflate it caused Gary Ashbrook’s asphyxiation, but his roommates told authorities he enjoyed S&M and bondage and had been “huffing” the gas for about three months. As an HIV-positive gay man, he was at least acquainted with the concept of safer sex. Ashbrook’s expiration was ruled “death by misadventure.”

Lust with caution: Antivirus companies are warning film fans not to download from the Web free copies of Ang Lee’s steamy spy thriller Lust, Caution. According to Reuters, some of the versions available on popular file-sharing sites are spies themselves, loaded with viruses designed to lift passwords from users’ computers. In addition, Chinese authorities are discouraging viewers there where the film is especially popular from trying any of the sexual positions revealed in the movie. Lust, Caution incorporates a number of long, sometimes violent sex scenes that director Lee (center, flanked by stars Tang Wei, left and Wang Leehom) has hinted were real.

Smile! You’re on FlashCAM: Think you’re alone on the beach with the object of your desire? Don’t be too sure, especially if you’re in Martin County, Fla. And that’s not the voice of God you hear coming from the sky. County officials are exploring the idea of installing talking cameras that emit a blast of light in areas known as good spots for romantic rendezvous. The cameras, manufactured by Q-Star Technology, are solar-powered and cost about $5,500 each. The move was precipitated by recent reports of increased public sex especially of the homosexual variety on Martin County’s public beaches during late-night hours.

At least they’re recycling….

China Condoms

Except in very special circumstances, Chinese law allows couples to have only one child. Imagine the condoms the country’s residents must discard annually! Not to worry. Some enterprising Chinese bazaars and beauty salons now offer colorful hair ties and rubber bands made from “reprocessed” condoms.

That’s not sitting well with health and law-enforcement officials in the prosperous Pearl River Delta city of Dongguan. According to Chinese newspaper New Express Daily, they’re worried the recycled rubbers will spread AIDS, genital warts and other diseases. “People could be infected with AIDS, warts or other diseases if they hold the rubber bands or strings in their mouths while weaving their hair into plaits or buns,” Dong, a dermatologist at the Guangzhou Hospital of Armed Police, told the paper.

Ew. I’m sure that’s a mental image we all could have done without.
